Chile: On 30 December US President
Joe Biden telephoned Chile’s President-elect
Gabriel Boric to congratulate him on his election victory in the 19 December presidential second-round run-off. According to a US official statement President Biden “
applauded Chile’s free and fair elections as a powerful example to the region and the world” while “
the two leaders discussed their shared commitment to social justice, democracy, human rights, and inclusive growth.” The same statement highlights that President Biden underscored the importance of bilateral cooperation to promote a “
green and equitable recovery” from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and to “
address the existential threat posed by climate change”.
