In brief: Argentina’s Buenos Aires hit by massive power outage

* Argentina’s electricity regulator Ente Nacional Regulador de la Electricidad (ENRE) has reported that a power cut affected over 700,000 users in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) amid a heat wave that saw temperatures exceed 40°C. Private electricity distribution firms Edesur and Edenor both reported power outages as the soaring temperatures produced a surge in demand for energy for air conditioning while Edesur tweeted that failures of high-voltage lines affected two of its substations.
