REGION: Omicron wave hits
The omicron variant of the coronavirus (Covid-19) has arrived in full force in Brazil, sending the number of new Covid-19 cases soaring and impacting key industries with staff shortages. Neighbouring countries in the Southern Cone are also scrambling to contain the spread of the variant, with Paraguay in particular tightening border restrictions in response to the arrival of omicron.
