BARBADOS: Curfew lifted as Mottley calls snap elections

A national curfew to contain the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic will be lifted for one night only in Barbados on 19 January when voters go to the polls to cast their ballots in a general election called by Prime Minister Mia Mottley on 27 December. This will be the first general election since Barbados became a parliamentary republic and comes less than two months after it replaced Queen Elizabeth II as head of state on 30 November 2021. Mottley said it was important to “unite around a common cause, a single government, and a single leader”.
