Election Watch


As electoral years go 2022 is set to be unusually quiet in Latin America. Those elections that are scheduled to take place, however, are likely to be loud and noisy affairs. The presidential elections in Brazil and Colombia look set to be polarising contests, with a shift to the left the most likely outcome in both countries. In Costa Rica, the return of one of the country’s traditional parties appears most likely, but no candidate enjoys overwhelming support, while in Haiti the field is wide open but the present political volatility means there is a strong chance the elections will not take place as scheduled.
