In brief: Imports greatly exceed pre-pandemic levels in Colombia

* Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has announced that imports totalled US$6.54bn in November 2021, representing a 56.3% increase on the same month in 2020. Whilst 2020 figures reflect the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, imports were also up 37.6% on November 2019. Dane attributed this to increased imports of manufactured goods, which were up 50.8% year-on-year and 40.8% higher than November 2019. Other categories that saw strong year-on-year increases were fuels and products for the extractive industries (+62.1%) and agricultural products, food and drink (+27.0%). The US supplied 25.6% of the total value of imports in November, followed by China (22.8%), Mexico (6.1%), and Brazil (5.5%).
