* Peru’s economy and finance minister,
Pedro Francke, has announced that the government is expecting GDP growth of between 3.5% and 4% in 2022, with current forecasts predicting that GDP will reach PEN572bn (US$148.62bn) this year. The predicted growth rate is lower than the economy and finance ministry’s August forecast of 4.8% growth in 2022, but Francke attributed this to the economy recovering faster than expected from the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic; he said that the August forecast had envisioned 2021 GDP to total PEN537bn when it actually reached PEN549bn (representing yearly growth of 13%), and that the PEN572bn forecast for 2022 is up on the August forecast of PEN563bn.
