Introduction

The government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador claims to be making some progress in tackling gender violence. However, the crime of femicide – the intentional killing of a woman or girl on account of her gender – remains widespread in Mexico. There are grounds for scepticism regarding the extent of progress that has been made to tackle the issue – as we discover in the first piece in this January 2022 issue of the Latin American Regional Report: Mexico.
