* Costa Rica’s central bank (BCCR) has released new figures which estimate that the country’s GDP grew 7.6% in 2021, up from the previous (October 2021) estimate of 5.4%. BCCR expects GDP to grow 3.9% this year. The BCCR said that since the second quarter of 2021, economic activity had exceeded levels observed prior to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, and that the strong upturn continued in the second half of 2021. It added that the forecast for 2022 was based on the upturn in household consumption and private investment as well as the continued boost from exports.
