PERU: Castillo facing mounting transparency concerns

At the height of a vicious election campaign in which both candidates were seen as potential threats to the rule of law, Peru’s now President Pedro Castillo and his right-wing opponent, Keiko Fujimori (Fuerza Popular), attended a joint event last May to pledge their commitment to transparency and democratic values. On 20 December a collective of 13 civil society organisations revisited those pledges with a report outlining eight ‘red alerts’ from Castillo’s first 120 days in office.
