MEXICO: New ‘Remain in Mexico’ raises old concerns

The migrant protection protocol (MPP) is already making its impact known in northern Mexico, despite only being in force since DecemberAccording to US-based human rightsS lobby group Washington Office on Latin America (Wola), as of 10 January - just over a month since the programme’s controversial restartthe MPP, also known as the 'Remain in Mexico' programme, had sent 249 asylum-seeking migrants back to Mexico. As the programme gets underway, the limitations of new measures aimed at addressing humanitarian flaws are already beginning to show.
