BRAZIL: Supreme court urges tolerance in electoral year

Brazil’s supreme court (STF) returned to work after the end-of-year recess on 1 February. The STF president, Justice Luiz Fux, has called for tolerance to prevail this year, with a general election due in October and after 2021 was dominated by President Jair Bolsonaro’s attacks on Brazil’s democratic institutions, which caused an acrimonious dispute between the high court and the head of state.
