MEXICO: New congress session opens amid competing priorities

A new congressional session opened this week, with over 280 deputies and 70 senators gathering in person to discuss a long list of priorities. Front and centre for the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena) will be the three constitutional reforms that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador wants to push through congress as a priority in his final three years in office. However, from the look of the agendas compiled by opposition parties Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD), and Movimiento Ciudadano (MC), resistance to each of the reforms remains strong.
