In brief: Costa Rica’s unemployment slows in 2021

* Costa Rica’s national statistics institute (INEC) has released new figures which show Costa Rica’s unemployment rate came in at 13.7% in the final quarter of 2021, 6.3 percentage points less than that registered in the same quarter of 2020. The Inec report shows a high gender imbalance in unemployment, with a 17.3% unemployment rate amongst women compared with just 11.3% for men.
