In brief: Mexico’s auto production, exports and sales down

*Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released the latest figures for Mexico’s auto industry, showing the production, export and domestic market sales of light trucks and cars in January 2022. According to the figures, Mexico produced 253,366 light vehicles in January 2022, a 9.09% reduction on the same month of 2021. Light vehicle exports were also down on January 2021, with 216,630 vehicles sent abroad in January 2022, a reduction of 3.09% as compared to the same period of the previous year. Domestically, 78,585 light vehicles were sold, a decrease of 3.76% as compared to January 2021. According to Gabriela Siller, the head of economic and financial analysis at private Mexican bank Banco Base, these are the lowest figures recorded in the month of January for domestic sales of light vehicles since 2012, for production since 2014 and for exports since 2016.
