Bolivia’s President Luis Arce announced the successful drilling of a major gas well on 5 February, which he said would add an additional US$260m to the treasury in royalties each year. The well, in the Margarita-10 gas field that straddles the departments of Tarija and Chuquisaca and is jointly operated by Spanish company Repsol and Bolivia’s state-owned Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), contains an estimated 300-350bn cubic feet of natural gas.
