BRAZIL: Bolsonaro tries to woo the Nordeste

President Jair Bolsonaro travelled to three states in Brazil’s Nordeste region this week to visit infrastructure works which aim to deliver water to the semi-arid region. With the October presidential election looming, the trip appears to be part of an electoral strategy to try and regain some popularity in a region which has traditionally been a bastion of support for former president Lula da Silva (2003-2011) and his Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT), likely to be Bolsonaro’s main electoral rival.
