ARGENTINA: Toxicologists solve lethal cocaine mystery

On 10 February the prosecutor’s office for Argentina’s Buenos Aires province said that adulterated cocaine, which recently caused 24 deaths and the hospitalisation of over 80 people on the outskirts of Buenos Aires province, contained carfentanil, a veterinary anaesthetic used to sedate large animals such as elephants and rhinos.
