In brief: Brazil sees positive economic activity in December

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released its latest data on the monthly index of economic activity (IBC-Br), which shows that economic activity grew 0.33% in December 2021 compared with the previous month, and 1.30% year-on-year. The IBC-Br, which serves as a proxy for GDP, grew just 0.1% in the final quarter of last year compared with the previous quarter. In the 12 months to December, Brazil’s economic activity expanded 4.5%.
