In brief: Peru posts strong trade surplus for 2021

* Peru’s central bank (BCRP) has released the balance of trade figures for 2021, recording a trade surplus of US$14.75bn. Exports last year totalled US$63.1bn (+47.1% year-on-year), while imports totalled US$48.35bn (+39.3%). The export total for 2021 was the highest on record, accounting for 28.1% of GDP. The BCRP noted that the US$14.75bn trade surplus was over US$7bn higher than the US$8.12bn recorded in 2020.
