In brief: Vista reveals rise in oil and gas reserves at Argentina’s Vaca Muerte

* The Mexico-headquartered firm Vista Oil & Gas has announced that its oil and gas reserves in Argentina’s Bajada del Palo Oeste concession, part of the Vaca Muerte shale oil and gas fields in Patagonia, increased by 57% in 2021. The increase resulted from the drilling of 20 new wells in the concession last year, boosting reserves by 46.8m barrels of oil equivalent (boe), according to a Vista statement. The new wells bring Vista’s total oil and gas reserves in the concession to 155m boe, with Vista CEO Miguel Galuccio saying that “as we continue to invest in Bajada del Palo Oeste, we expect to keep incorporating our deep inventory of new well locations into our proved reserves base.”
