REGION: Mixed fortunes in the struggle against inflation

The Andean region has not emerged unscathed from the global surge in inflation, with Colombia and Peru reporting seven- and thirteen-year highs, respectively, and Ecuador posting a rise in its consumer price index after a period of deflation. Bolivia has so far been largely unaffected, however, possibly being cushioned by its status as an energy-exporting nation. Meanwhile, there is now ample evidence that Venezuela has left its long period of hyperinflation behind.
