GUYANA: Oil boosts Guyana’s budget by 37%

On 26 January, Guyana’s finance minister Ashni Singh presented the 2022 budget in which total expenditure is 36.8% above last year. Singh told the National Assembly: “At this moment of unprecedented opportunity for our country, we seek now to convert the bright prospects before us into realised national and individual well-being for all Guyanese.” And just as the finance minister was making this pledge, even-more good news was coming in from the already-booming oil sector.
