In brief: Consumer outlook improves in Brazil

* The Confederação Nacional do Comércio de Bens, Serviços e Turismo (CNC), a private sector lobby group in Brazil, has released the latest data from its indicator on the intention of household consumption (ICF). The CNC notes that the ICF indicator grew 0.4% in February this year to reach 77.6 points, its highest point since May 2020. In year-on-year terms, the indicator grew 4.6%. CNC president José Roberto Trados understands that the improved numbers represent consumers’ more positive perception of their income. Six of the seven criteria used to calculate the ICF indicator improved, including access to credit, perspectives on consumption, current employment, and professional outlook. Only the outlook on purchasing durable goods saw a negative variation, reflecting high inflation levels and high interest rates, according to the CNC.
