In brief: Panama and Saudi Arabia boost ties

*Panama’s foreign minister Erika Mouynes has received Adel bin Ahmed al-Jubeir, Saudi Arabia’s minister of state for foreign affairs in Panama City. According to Panama’s foreign ministry, the two discussed efforts to promote Panama’s exports and tourism to Panama as well as Panama’s efforts to develop clean energy such as green hydrogen. This comes as Panama is seeking to promote itself as a regional green hydrogen hub. Last month Panama’s Energy Minister Jorge Rivera announced the launch of green hydrogen road map aimed at the country becoming a “transformational hub of green hydrogen”, an initiative which is being accompanied by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). IDB senior energy specialist, Arturo Alarcón, said that a detailed strategy was being drafted with actions that would enable Panama to enter the market.
