In brief: Argentina to receive US$2bn in WB funding in 2022

* Argentina’s economy ministry has announced that the director of operations at the World Bank (WB), Axel van Trotsenburg, confirmed in a meeting with Economy Minister Martín Guzmán that Argentina will receive US$2bn in WB funds in 2022. This follows Argentina’s receipt of US$2.1bn in WB funding in 2021 for the country’s response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, including the purchase of vaccines and the expanded economic support for low-income Argentines. According to an economy ministry statement, Van Trotsenburg told Guzmán that “the World Bank supports [Argentina] while it continues advancing along its path of growth and recovers from the impacts of the Covid-19” pandemic. The statement added that “looking forward, Van Trotsenburg and Guzmán discussed the importance of deepening the cooperation between Argentina and the World Bank in priority sectors for the development of health, transport, social inclusion, water, and the environment.”
