PERU: Humala in the dock

The virtual trial of Peru’s former president Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) began on 21 February. The leftist-turned-neoliberal ex-president is accused of money laundering in relation to illegal campaign donations received from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht with the alleged backing of the leftist Brazilian president Lula da Silva (2003-2010), and also from Venezuela’s former president Hugo Chávez (1999-2013).
