MEXICO: Zacatecas security crisis intensifies

For safety reasons, residents of the central Mexican state of Zacatecas were warned not to travel around the state or open certain businesses on 19 and 20 February. The warning appeared to be issued by one of Mexico’s most powerful drug trafficking organisations (DTO), the Sinaloa DTO, which apologised for the recent murders of innocent citizens in Zacatecas and said it was giving the warning to avoid more deaths. It was a sign of just how out of control the security situation in the state has become.
