The PAN's problem

President Vicente Fox's decision to fire his ambitious (and young) energy minister, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, for starting to campaign for the Partido Acción Nacional's presidential nomination for 2006 was another spectacularly inept move. Dropping Calderón was supposed to warn contenders not to compete too openly for Fox's job. In fact, the sacking has raised speculation and jockeying to new levels.
