PERU: López’s plea deal spells trouble for Castillo

The 28 February resignation of Peru’s transport and communications minister, Juan Silva, marked him as the first high-profile casualty of a corruption scandal that could tip President Pedro Castillo’s administration into its greatest crisis to date. Silva’s departure followed revelations that the lobbyist Karelim López Arredondo had implicated his ministry in a corruption racket linked to her secret meetings with government officials late last year [WR-22-08].
