López Obrador: The time of trial
Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the mayor of Mexico City and the front-runner for the presidential election in 2006, will be fighting for his political career over the next few months. First a congressional committee will consider whether to strip him of his immunity from prosecution. His opponents claim that López Obrador ignored an injunction to halt one of his construction projects. Whatever the congressional committee decides, the full lower chamber is likely to rule on the issue.
