In brief: Mexico’s auto industry reports slow start to 2022

* Mexico’s national statistics institute (Inegi) has released the latest figures for Mexico’s auto industry, showing the production, export and domestic market sales of light vehicles in February 2022. According to the figures, Mexico produced 240,479 light vehicles in February 2022, a 0.66% increase on the same month of 2021. However, light vehicle exports were down on February 2021, with 201,868 vehicles sent abroad in February 2022, a reduction of 5.66% on the same period of the previous year. Domestically, 79,600 light vehicles were sold in February 2022, a decrease of 3.94% as compared to February 2021. In the first two months of 2022, production was down 4.59% compared to the first two months of 2021, with exports down 4.3%, and sales down 3.85% on the same period of the previous year.
