In brief: Mexico reports strong formal job creation

*Mexico’s national social security institute (IMSS) has released a new report which shows that as of 28 February it had registered a total of 20.94m jobs. According to the same report, in February 178,867 jobs were created in the formal sector, representing a monthly increase of 0.9%. According to the IMSS, this is the highest increase for the month of February since records began. In the last twelve months, the IMSS says it registered an increase of just over 1m jobs, the first time that annual job creation has surpassed the one million mark. The economic sectors to register the highest annual percentage job growth were transportation and communications (+11.8%), construction (8.4%) and extractive industries (6.8%).
