MEXICO: Push for legislation to protect journalists

Mexico’s political opposition and the human rights unit of the interior ministry (Segob) have both urged the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to introduce legislation to protect journalists and human rights defenders (HRDs) in the past week. The proposals add to mounting pressure on the government to take concrete action to tackle violence affecting these two groups, particularly journalists who have faced a deadly start to 2022.
