MEXICO: Energy reform reflects wider lack of interest in climate

In a report published on 21 February, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) noted that Mexico has been a pioneer among emerging economies in climate change mitigation. However, it stated that much more needs to be done, especially in renewable energy, with much of Mexico’s abundant renewable sources remaining untapped. Additionally, the OECD highlighted that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s proposed energy sector reform [EB-21-11] risks undoing progress made in this area.
