MEXICO: Organised crime threatens avocado exports

Mexico’s agriculture and rural development ministry (Sader) revealed on 12 February that US authorities had suspended avocado shipments from Mexico, the world’s main avocado producer. The US suspended its avocado inspection programme in Mexico’s Michoacán state for security reasons, after an official with the US animal and plant health inspection service (Aphis) received a threatening phone call while working in the city of Uruapan.
