BRAZIL: Education ministry engulfed in another scandal

Brazil’s education ministry (MEC) has been hit by scandal, after leading newspapers revealed that a select few evangelical pastors allegedly benefited from undue favours and influence within the ministry. The still-developing story has sparked outrage in a number of quarters, not least amongst the political opposition, but it is still unclear how much it will harm President Jair Bolsonaro and his government. This is, after all, neither the first time that the Bolsonaro government has been associated with corruption nor the first scandal to engulf the MEC.
