MEXICO: Cryptocurrency: the new frontier for Mexican DTOs

The latest annual report by the United Nations (UN) International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), published on 10 March, noted that “cyberspace and cryptocurrencies” were emerging as the “new frontier” for drug trafficking organisations (DTOs) and other criminal groups. The report stated that major Mexican DTOs, including the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) and Sinaloa DTO in particular, were increasingly using cryptocurrency to launder their illicit gains.
