COSTA RICA/REGION: Costa Rica legalises medicinal cannabis use

On 2 March Costa Rica’s President Carlos Alvarado promulgated a law regulating the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes and the production of hemp. President Alvarado’s move follows that of Panama in October 2021 [SSR-21-12] which became the first country in Central America to take the step, following in the footsteps of at least seven other countries in Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay).
