Juan Zabaleta have announced a 50% increase in the ‘Tarjeta Alimentar’ (TA) food subsidy programme which is claimed by 2.4m beneficiaries, reaching 4.1m people. The TA is part of the government’s national plan to eradicate hunger, which was launched in 2020. Its beneficiaries are recipients of the Universal Child Allowance (AUH), a conditional cash transfer for parents. Under the latest changes, families with one child under 14 or with disabilities will receive Ar$9,000 (US$80) per month, rising to Ar$13,500 for families with two children under 14 or with disabilities, while families with three children under 14 will receive Ar$18,000. The government’s move is the latest sign of efforts to address
the impact of spiralling inflation which was 52.3% in the 12 months to February.
