MEXICO: López Obrador sets sights on new reform

The second half of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s term is centred on passing three controversial constitutional reforms. So far, the focus has been on the electricity reform, which seeks to prioritise electricity generated by the state-owned Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) over private renewable energy providers. The reform, which has been the subject of much debate and criticism, is still far from garnering the support needed to pass in congress. Nevertheless, López Obrador is ploughing on with presenting his next reform, which seeks to overhaul the electoral authorities and reduce the size of congress.
