MEXICO: Violence marks local elections

Municipal elections in Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas were marked by violence this week. Elections were cancelled at the last minute in Frontera Comalapa and Honduras de la Sierra municipalities amid fears of violence, and polling stations were stormed and ballot boxes burnt in Venustiano Carranza municipality, where elections did go ahead.
