In brief: Projections for record harvest revised down in Brazil

* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released its latest forecasts for the 2022 harvest of grains, cereals, legumes and oilseeds; these have been revised down by 1%, compared with the previous forecast, but this year’s harvest is still expected to be a record one. The Ibge forecasts a harvest of 258.9m tonnes, up 2.3% on the 2021 yield. According to the Ibge, the latest downwards revision of this year’s grains harvest is primarily due to expected reductions in the soya, maize, and rice harvests, all hit by climatic factors, notably a drought in the south of the country.
