US congratulates Costa Rica’s Chaves on electoral victory

Costa Rica: On 4 April, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated Rodrigo Chaves on his victory in Costa Rica’s 3 April presidential run-off election. A statement by the US State Department also congratulates “Costa Ricans for participating in and carrying out an electoral process consistent with Costa Rica’s strong democratic traditions”. It adds that “Costa Rica represents a beacon of democracy in the Americas and the world, and our bilateral relations remain rooted in shared democratic values embracing freedom, inclusivity, and respect for human rights”. It concludes by saying that the US government looks forward to strengthening bilateral relations “to advance common interests, including humane migration management, protecting the environment, and working with democratic partners in the region toward a more secure, prosperous, and democratic hemisphere”.
