VENEZUELA: Oil sanctions under the spotlight

For the US, enforcing simultaneous economic sanctions on two different petro-states it accuses of human rights violations appears to be one too many. Or at least that is how the media interpreted meetings between US State Department officials and the Venezuelan government last month: as a possible sign of rapprochement amid restrictions on Russian oil imports following its invasion of Ukraine.
