BRAZIL: The ‘third way’ tries to regroup

The Brazilian ‘third way’ lost three presidential hopefuls in March, most notably former judge Sergio Moro. But it now has a new contender: on 14 April União Brasil (UB) approved Luciano Bivar, the party’s president, as its presidential pre-candidate. Bivar joins João Doria of the Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB) and Simone Tebet of the Movimento Democrático Brasileiro (MDB) in the line-up of ‘third way’ candidates, of which only one is eventually expected to run in the 2 October presidential elections.
