PARAGUAY: Union leaders arrested for extortion

Five leaders of truckers’ unions in Paraguay have been placed under preventive detention accused of efforts to extort money from the government in exchange for refraining from erecting roadblocks. In mid-March they had spearheaded nationwide protests against high fuel prices [WR-22-11].
