Aramayo’s death sparks heated debate in Bolivia

The former director of Bolivia’s indigenous development fund (Fondioc), Marco Antonio Aramayo, died in intensive care in a La Paz hospital on 19 April. Aramayo’s death, from a heart attack, after seven years in preventive detention, prompted an avalanche of criticism from the political opposition of the ruling left-wing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS), which it accuses of having co-opted the judiciary to silence critics exposing uncomfortable truths, such as official corruption.
