In brief: Peru’s imports in Q1 2022 surpass records

* Peru’s association of exporters (ADEX) has reported that the value of Peru’s imports reached record levels in the first quarter of 2022. According to ADEX, imports totalled US$14.06bn from January-March, representing a 23.5% increase on Q1 2021. The surge in imports was driven by increasing prices for industrial inputs, food, fertilisers and fuels, and was “intensified by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
