In brief: Nicaragua’s foreign debt continues to climb

*Nicaragua’s central bank (BCN) has released new figures which show that the country’s foreign debt (public and private) to the end of December 2021 was US$14.37bn, up 6.6% on 2020. Of the total, US$7.8bn corresponded to the public sector and US$6.56bn to the private sector. Of the total foreign debt, 44.1% was owed to multilateral creditors and 35.0% to bilateral creditors.
